Bacon strips and bacon strips and BACON STRIPS

Good evening ladies and gentlemen!

So we've heard a lot lately of bacon and anything/everything possibly related to bacon. So in order to make you laugh a little there have been several people who have made videos and comedy related posts about Bacon.

Such men include Jim Gaffigan, 46 year old stand up comedian, who is well renowned for his jokes about food. He does a bit about bacon going on forever about how amazing bacon really is. Don't take my word for it, watch it here!

Furthermore is Epic Meal Time. Epic Meal Time is a Youtube sensation that began back in the mid 2000's and does extravagant videos about over-the-top food experiments. I find it appropriate to post the Thanksgiving video because they purely use bacon alongside other foods to create the ultimate Thanksgiving dinner. First they use 5 birds: a turkey, duck, chicken, quail, and a cornish hen. They stack it all inside one another creating an incredible Turducken (typically a duck in a chicken in a turkey). Then they stuff the cavities with a sausage/bacon stuffing and use a custom meat glue to hold it all together. They cover the entire bird inside and out with bacon strips. They bake it, and stuff it all inside of a pig.

The result, is purely over 60,000 calories of sweet bacony goodness. A meal fit for a god.

So I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! And enjoy your bacon!

The Best Bacon I Ever Had.....

As a bacon lover, I make it a point to order bacon every time I go out to eat breakfast. My French Toast is not complete unless I have a few strips of bacon-y goodness on the side. It makes my meal more satisfying and worthwhile.

Most of your average breakfast restaurants will unfortunately serve average bacon, but every once in a while a seemingly average restaurant will pull out all the stops and deliver....The Best Bacon I Ever Had!

On a trip to Northern California in January of 2012 to visit my cousin I was beyond pleasantly surprised when I went to a small restaurant called Grounds in the town of Murphy's for breakfast and was served the most delicious bacon I have ever eaten. I casually ordered my French Toast with a side of bacon (I like mine on the "well done" side) and waited for my food. When it arrived I immediately noticed that the bacon was thicker than a normal slice and looked very evenly cooked. Once I took a bite I was overcome with the joy of finding The Best Bacon I Ever Had.

The bacon was crispy and crunchy, but still had a softness to it that made it easy to devour. There were no fatty spots on the bacon that were less palatable and it was just sliced to the perfect thickness. When the waitress came back to check on us I asked her how they cooked their bacon and she said that they bake it in the oven to that the bacon retains its shaped in the cooking process and each strip is cooked perfectly even. I was so delighted by the yummy strips of bacon that I ordered another side of it so I enjoy it even more.

So far, I have yet to find a side of bacon to top the ones at Grounds. They perfected their bacon in a way that cannot be matched in my opinion.

Unfortunately my cousin has since moved away from Murphy's but when I went to visit her again in July I convinced her to take me back to Grounds so I could taste the perfection once again. It was still just as amazing and I'm currently plannin my next trip to visit my cousin and hopefully to stop in at Grounds again. Until then, I will continue dreaming of....The Best Bacon I Ever Had!

The Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival, billed as the largest gathering of bacon enthusiasts in the world, takes place each year in Iowa. Why Iowa? The state of Iowa is the largest producer or pork in the nation by far. The whole place is practically wrapped in bacon. It's the perfect place to hold a bacon festival.

Vying for the top spot in bacon festivals is Baconfest Chicago. Organizers describe this event as, "The greatest single culinary and cultural festival ever dedicated to Bacon and Bacon only." This festival, held in April, topped 3000 visitors in 2012 and the organizers expect even more in 2013.

What could be better than a great bacon festival? A bacon festival that benefits a good cause, that's what. If you are over 21 and will be in the Kansas City area on August 25, you can take part in Bacon-Fest, The Other Fundraiser. The proceeds from the event help to fund the Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City, an organization which helps kids and adults with disabilities to live more independently.

Bacon Ratings: Bit by Bit (Pun intended)

Alright Ladies and gentlemen!

Now, here we are with the fourth post regarding anything and everything for the topic of bacon. We've firmly established our behemoth-sized love for the greasy goodness, but one topic we have yet to discuss is the quality of bacon. Bacon is most often overlooked as a simple cut of pork underbelly that really has no importance whether if it's quality bacon or not, but that's a terrible outlook to have! Depending on the bacon you have it can completely range from a simple breakfast item to a savory culinary choice, yet most of us are faced with the common problem whenever entering a super market:

WHAT BRAND DO I BUY?

I mean come on now, every single one of you readers completely relate to this question. You're approaching those glorious double doors to a haven of foods ripe for the picking and choosing, yet when you've come to the biggest decision of bacon, you blank on the brand....there are so many....Farmer John? Trader Joe's brand? Ralph's? Niman Ranch?

So many choices, so much bacon....mmmmm.....bacon....

Now you don't have to panic anymore! All of your culinary conundrums have been answered and the glorious gods of bacon have bestowed upon you THIS list of the top brands of bacon all depending on smokiness, saltiness, fattiness, and flavor. Created by the Editors of Food and Wine magazine, this completely reliable list of the top 16 bacon brands is at your disposal but we'll knock it down to 3 for your sake.

NUMBER ONE: Vande Rose Farms Artisan Dry Cured Applewood Smoked Bacon

This brand is actually specifically mail-ordered and was loved for its meaty texture and balanced flavor. It is dry cured for six days with brown sugar, black pepper, and salt, then slow smoked for 12 hours over applewood chips. Needless to say this brand is the Michael Phelps of bacon and is completely deserving of the prestigious first place. The editors commented saying it was "very meaty, good texture, with a good flavor and pleasant saltiness".

NUMBER TWO: Trader Joe's Uncured Apple Smoked Bacon

Described as " a good balance of fat to meat with a nice chew and crispiness. A sweet touch and great maple flavor". Despite the wonderful comments, the nicest thing is that this runner up is available at any local Trader Joe's near you! Even the snobbiest of food connoisseurs have decided that this easily attainable bacon is amazing.

NUMBER THREE: D'Artagnan Uncured Applewood Smoked Bacon

Finally, this third bacon choice is available in most supermarkets and is a brand that uses only the choicest of meats in the breeding market. Food and Wine's editors loved the pleasant saltiness and mild smoke. On the downside, D'Artagnan was described to be a bit on the fatty side (but who's really losing at that point), but it was smooth and sweet, not overly salty.

Well, Now you have been informed and given options for when you next seek the right bacon. The quality matters, and making the right choice could be bridging the gap between an "amazing" breakfast experience and the "ultimate" breakfast experience.
